It is half way through the year and despite all the things that have happened, I have managed to stay on track with this challenge.
I’ve really enjoyed this challenge so far, it is quite fun to find books that fit the tropes and since I was the one picking the challenges its been things that I actually enjoy reading. I have a couple of the remaining books picked out but so far I have had some last minute changes, so watch this space!
You can check out how I’ve gone in the graphic below or the links to each post and trope. Also because it is so close to be published anyway, you get an extra special spoiler that my next 12 Trope post is about Superheroes.
I’m very excited because I have finished making my 2020 Reading Challenge Card. Similar to this years Book Bingo, which I have really enjoyed, I am toning down the amount and instead focusing on 12 tropes of 2020.
The action plan for my 12 Tropes of 2020 Reading challenge is to once a month, pick a trope, read a book that fits, and then write a post about the book and the trope. So keep your eyes out for a post and my hashtag #12Tropesof2020.
If you’re interested in taking part all you need to do is:
- Use my Challenge Card or make/ask for one of your own
- Read 12 books and write 12 posts throughout the year
- Add a link and pingback to this post
- Use the hashtag #12Tropesof2020 and
- Have fun!
If you’re interested in using the below challenge card or want to take part but want different tropes, let me know! I’ll see if I can make you a graphic or if not you can download the blank graphic that is available at the end of the post.
So without further adieu, check out my 12 Tropes of 2020 Challenge.
So what do you think? Do you like the new layout? Digging the trope choices? Interested in taking part? Leave a comment and let me know!

In preparation for next year, I’m starting to think about what I’m going to do for my next reading challenge. I’ve really enjoyed my Book Bingo this year and am looking forward to doing something similar next year.
The wonderful Jess from The Never Ending Bookshelf made a really cute book bingo template for this year that I just love! So much so, I am thinking of stealing her idea.
The template that Jess created is tamer than the huge monstrosity of my 2019 book bingo card, and I just love the way the template looks. Instead of a typical bingo card layout, Jess created a nice three line style which is not only different but has a really nice look and feel to it. If you haven’t you should totally check out Jess’ 2019 Book Bingo challenge, and see for yourself how damned cute it is!
With this in mind, I am thinking about ditching the 25 squares and instead only using 12 squares. There will also be a shift in focus, instead of offering things like ‘Goodreads Rec’ or ‘Read because of a pretty cover,’ I was thinking of focusing on tropes only.
This would mean potentially sticking to one challenge a month – which does leave me open to having to complete a challenge even if I change my mind and hate it, so I shall have to think carefully 🧐
In light of this, I am trying to think of challenge squares and am struggling. So far I have thought of a few and have really just hit the wall in terms of thinking of others. Also lets be honest, I’m probably only going to read romance novels so the tropes are focused towards that genre.
The below are some of my current ideas:
- Marriage of Convenience.
- Fake/Pretend Relationship.
- Ice King/Queen.
So once again, I’m putting it to you, do you have any suggestions for tropes?
