Blurb: There’s something wickedly naughty about love on the run

Darwin Bloom has no true identity—his laboratory creators made sure of that. Darwin isn’t his real name and living on the lam doesn’t exactly allow for deep romantic relationships, but the feelings he’s developed for engineer Tom Cooper are strong enough to try.

Tom Cooper’s life changed forever when he met Darwin. Gone are his fears of intimacy—Tom wants to do whatever Darwin asks, whenever he asks. How is it that the big, beautiful construction worker can seem dangerous and delicious at the same time?

But when Darwin’s mysterious past comes back with a vengeance, there’s more than just incredible sex at stake. Darwin promised Tom he’d never leave him…but keeping him safe might mean doing just that.

Length: 222 pages.
Series: Research and Desire #2.
Genre: Romance. QUILTBAG. M/M. Erotica.

My Thoughts: So I thought the first book of the Research and Desire book series was good, but boy does this book blow that idea out of the water. Natural Selection was amazing! The relationship and interactions between Tom and Darwin were absolutely fantastic and had me smiling throughout the novel.

Okay, so I may be a little bias, as I am attracted to sarcastic and snarky personality types, but Darwin and Tom were so real to me. The moments that made the two characters for me where the back and forth puns they threw at each other. Near the end of the novel, there is a scene where the two are doing this, and one pun falls spectacularly short, with Darwin calling it out for being bad.

Yes! Thank you.

More of that please.

Whether or not my intense love of these two came from my own tendencies to have terrible pun battles with my partner or just my appreciation of punny moments, what cannot be refuted is how entertaining the book is – Natural Selection is funny and (despite the superhuman aspects) feels real.

Darwin and Tom had fun, they teased, and they were understanding of each other. I really enjoyed Natural Selection and cannot wait to read the third book in the series! For every book of hers that I read, Katie Allen never fails to be entertaining, tell emotional stories, and make me smile.

Smut Level: For reasons relating to the plot, it takes longer than ‘normal’ for the pair to become physically intimate but don’t fret, in-between this are intense verbal moments between the pair. When the physical part of Tom and Darwin’s relationship starts, boy does it start, the book is filled with interesting and intense physical moments between the two characters.

Blurb: Science geek Claire spends most days in the confines of her laboratory, safely avoiding humans. So her world is sent into a sexy tailspin when a rare night out at the club starts with a game of Avoid Your Handsy Boss and ends with getting rescued by the most perfect male specimen she’s ever seen.

Bouncer Ed can’t get enough of Claire, or of watching his “little mouse” let loose when he touches her. Saving her once was easy, even fun. But his fiercely protective nature goes into overdrive when Claire’s determination to reveal what’s really going on in the lab endangers both their lives.

Being on the run isn’t enough to keep Claire’s hands off her beautiful protector, or to stop them from falling in love. But it isn’t long before Claire discovers Ed is hiding a shocking secret of his own…

Previously published under a different title:Experimenting with Ed.’

Length: 151 pages.
Series: Research and Desire #1.
Genre: Romance. Erotica.
Read as an: eBook.

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. Although the book is fairly short and action packed, I absolutely fell in love with Ed and Claire. The pair had me smiling throughout the book and I really enjoyed the chemistry between them. Little things like Claire’s desire to make Ed smile more and Ed’s hesitant, almost shy responses to her humour, were so sweet.

In addition to this, from start to beginning, the story was interesting. There were no lulls or slow moments, the story kept going, was well paced, and carried my attention. If you weren’t aware, I am a big fan of the authors ❤ mainly because she always managed to tell emotionally investing story with nuanced characters.

The shocking secret of the book isn’t explored in very much detail, but I suspect that over the course of the series, and through the different characters, it will be looked at in more detail. The next book is about Darwin, a friend of Ed’s who they visit while on the run, and I am looking forward to reading it!

Smut Level: Wow-wee! The chemistry between the two main characters is amazing and it carries through into not only the story but the sexy scenes.

I love how Allen is not afraid of writing explicit content that explores the sexuality of her characters. The anal scene and small penetrative moment between Claire with Ed was great to see in a romance novel! Each smutty moment in the book is passionate and interesting.

Smut Lovers Reading Group: A Bargain with the Boss by Barbara Dunlop

Smut Lovers Book Club banner 2

Some of you may have noticed that I am a pretty big fan of the romance genre. I am a equal opportunity kind of reader, I will read heterosexual, gay, lesbian, trans, threesome, polyamory – pretty much if it has romance in it, I will read it.

I run a private ‘Smut Lovers Reading Club/Book Club’ online, which just means that myself and a few friends, share pics of books we’re reading and then posts little reviews of them after we have finished them. I thought I would share these little mini reviews on my blog, to help share the romance love ❤

But everyone has a weakness, and Tuck won’t lose a fortune…or an opportunity with Amber. He’s found the perfect way to tempt her into making a bargain with the boss.

Length: 208 pages.
Series: Chicago Sons #3.
Genre: Romance.
Read as an: eBook.

My Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised with this book. As this was a quick pick I made through my libraries online eBooks, I wasn’t really expecting that much. I was also expecting the book to maybe be a tad cringeworthy, mainly in regards to the boss/secretary relationship and the power dynamics of that, but I was quite surprised that the book had a detailed discussion between the two characters about sexual harassment in the workplace. I loved that the book addressed that!

Over all I really enjoyed the book, there was a Happily Ever After, (I know right, mind blown 😛 ) but in a way that was quite nice and mindful of the HR department. Also as expected, having the main character called Tucker Tucker never failed to make me smile. I will be honest with you, this was the main reason I chose the book, with a name like that how could you not read it?

Smut Level: Eh. There was some sexiness but was vague and kinda poetic in a way. The book is from the Desire line though, so it fits.

Quick Picks: M/M Romance novels

Pride Month

QUICK Picks

I am a sucker for romance novels ❤ Even more so if they’re ones with QUILTBAG characters. Some of my favourite novels from the romance genre, are ones that have two men as the romantic leads.

Don’t get me wrong, I am just as likely to be reading romances with f/f, m/m/f, f/f/m, and how conventional of me m/f pairings. In addition to these, I also have an incredible weakness for romances that feature trans and/or asexual characters.

I have grandiose plans to eventually feature each of these pairings in a similar post. So keep your eye out! In the mean time, the below are just a quick look at some of my favourites from the m/m romance genre. I hope you enjoy.

undermyskinUnder My Skin

by M.L. Rhodes.

Goodreads ||  Author ||  Amazon

The publisher of this series has stopped operating, however the book is scheduled for re-release within either 2018 or 2019.

Quick story run down: Sebastian Keller is a straight laced ‘smart guy’ who runs his own travel book shop. Dylan Radamacher is the bad boy owner of the ‘Rad Tattoo’ store that just opened up next to Sebastian.

In a book that combines two stories, you see Sebastian and Dylan break down their misconceptions of each other. As they both learn more about each other, you see their walls fall down as the pair start to hit it off. A sweet and sexy romance story follows.

Quick reasons why I love the book:

  • Cute characters: From beginning to end Sebastian and Dylan make me smile.
  • Enemies to lovers: I’m a sucker for that trope and while the pair may not have been enemies, there was some understandable animosity between them.
  • Re-readability: I found this book about eight years ago and I have re-read it some many times. I caved and tracked down a physical copy.

Look at all the pretty boys you can ‘love!’

About: The Men of Yoshiwara: Kukuya is a Japanese romance visual novel that follows the story of a user-named character (in my case Gertrude Issaprúde) as she (hopefully) finds love.

I’m not going to sugar coat it, the main character is offered the chance to spend one night with a courtesan in a brothel. Players are then given the option of which man to select for the night. Each selection offers players a longer story that explores that character in more depth. Depending on how well you answer prompts and how much the character likes you (a points based system determined from the answers you select), you finish with one of two happy endings.
