My Thoughts:Heated Rivalry is a book that takes place over the course of many years. While technically a sequel to the first Game Changers book (of the same name) Heated Rivalry takes place before and after the events of the first book.
Blurb: New York Admirals captain Scott Hunter takes his pregame rituals very seriously. In this case, it’s not just a lucky smoothie he’s craving—it’s the man who made it.
Pro hockey star Scott Hunter knows a good thing when he sees it. So, when a smoothie made by juice bar barista Kip Grady precedes Scott breaking his on-ice slump, he’s desperate to recreate the magic…and to get to know the sexy, funny guy behind the counter.
Kip knew there was more to Scott’s frequent visits than blended fruit, but he never let himself imagine being invited back to Scott’s penthouse. Or kissed with reckless abandon, never mind touched everywhere all at once. When it happens it’s red-hot, incredible and frequent, but also only on Scott’s terms and always behind his closed apartment doors.
Scott needs Kip in his life, but with playoff season approaching, the spotlight on him is suddenly brighter than ever. He can’t afford to do anything that might derail his career…like introducing the world to his boyfriend. Kip is ready to go all-in with Scott—but how much longer will he have to remain a secret?

My Thoughts: I’m not going to say I read Game Changers for the cover but I definitely read the blurb because of that cover. Once I started Game Changers, the story and characters of this book were so engaging that I finished the book in a day.
The blurb does hint at some angst, especially in regards to Scott being in the closet but I found that this wasn’t the case. The book is not just about Scott and Kip getting together but about the pair as they come to accept things about themselves and their relationship.
Blurb:It’s typical of video game programmer Josiah Simmons to be the last one on the plane on the way to the biggest meeting of his career. Though he’s (mostly) coping with his ADHD, he can’t handle another distraction. But he also can’t ignore his rugged seatmate—especially once he learns the military man’s a fan of his game.
Ryan Orson refuses to let his severe injuries pause his career as a navy SEAL. He’s got hours of grueling physical therapy ahead of him, and no time for anything that might get in the way of his return to active duty. But that doesn’t mean he’s above a little first-class flirtation with geeky-cute Josiah.
When a delay strands the pair in St. Louis, they agree to share a hotel room and a night of gaming. Neither expects their new connection to move to the next level in the light of day. Opposites may attract, but is this game over before it’s even begun?

My Thoughts: Reeeally loved this couple. I loved the dynamic between them and how they both viewed the relationship – it added an emotional depth to the pair. The unstable ground between them mixed with their easy compatibility was so great. Especially when you combined this with the emotional journeys the characters were on, Josiah and his leadership issues and Ryan with his rehabilitation.
I knew while I was reading this that it was not only amazing but that it was one of my favourites for the year ❤
Smut Level: Lots of off-screen action and relationship development but I enjoyed this aspect of the novel. The sexy scenes were great and really emotionally charged.
I loved seeing the emotional development of Ryan throughout these scenes as he learned that he can still be the same sexual being he was previous to his accident.
2018 has been a great year for reading. I have enjoyed a lot of books but of them there have been a few that have really stood out. The majority of the books selected are ones that I haven’t been able to get out of my head, my mind has been drawn back to the stories or characters of the books.
Check out the below ‘quick picks’ of some of my favourite books from 2018.
While I didn’t rate the book five stars, I did enjoy it a lot. Throughout the year I have kept returning to it and thinking about the storytelling. The Darkest Part of the Forest has renewed my interest in not only Holly Black but stories that feature Fae.
Quick reasons why I love the book:
The Story: The idea of the boy in the coffin that has been there for years and the town that is on the borders of the supernatural was just great. I keep thinking about how effortlessly I was pulled into this story.
The characters: I really enjoyed the characters and the siblings in this book. The way in which the story ends with the protector, the lover, and the prince, was so great. Also loving the QUILTBAG representation.
Blurb: Quick-witted hustler Ghost is no stranger to living dangerously; survival has always been the name of the game.
He’s just always gone it alone.
Now he’s got the wrong people breathing down his neck, and the only way out demands placing his trust in the unlikeliest of heroes: Duncan Rook, a gruff cop whose ethics are as solid as his body.
Cozying up to a criminal is hardly what Duncan’s reputation on the force needs—especially when that criminal is temptation personified. Ghost is Duncan’s polar opposite, and the last person he expected to fall for.
So then why does every imaginable scenario for taking down their common enemy end with Ghost in his arms?
Release Date: 3rd December, 2018. Length: 496 pages. Series: The Woodbury Boys #3
My Thoughts:Rough Trade is such an emotional roller-coaster! I am not exaggerating when I say I stayed awake until 3am reading this book. And not just for the action packed suspense of the story, but for the damned emotions it kept making me feel!
Plot wise, Rough Trade is action and angst packed. From intense action scenes, to emotional conversations, Bell has packed so much into this book. However it wasn’t the action that kept me reading into the wee hours of the night, it was the emotions.
Speech therapist Daphne’s neat, orderly life takes a turn for the dramatic when she’s kidnapped and spirited away to a hideout deep in the Colorado mountains. Her captors? Gorgeous men—all escaped from a secret laboratory designed to build perfect supersoldiers.
Trauma associated with his engineering left Benjy mute, and Ari thinks Daphne’s just the girl to help him recover. Held against her will, Daphne will be damned before she helps any of them—regardless of how electrifying she finds their touches.
But as Daphne’s hunger for Benjy and Ari grows, so does her empathy for the other soldiers hiding out at the lodge. With danger from her own past threatening to resurface and an overeager FBI agent sniffing around, she needs to free herself, her men and the others.

Series: Research and Desire #4.
Genre: Romance. Erotica.

My Thoughts: Woo! Last book in the series!
I will be honest with you, Double Dose wasn’t my favourite. The book does wrap up the story and provide way more information about the backstory of the five main guys, which was great. The part that put me off the most was the relationship between the romantic leads Daphne, Ari, and Benjy.
Blurb: Thanks to a top-secret government agency, I don’t remember everything…but I know I can’t go back.
I thought I’d found the perfect place to hide. Wrong. Even though I’m deep undercover, she sees me. The real me. And she wants me.
I’d give anything to build a life with a woman like Lauren Hayes. But with rogue government agents hunting me down, I can’t risk getting her involved. Our lust—our love—needs to remain a secret.
Despite our precautions, the men who’ll have my hide now have Lauren in their sights. To keep us both alive, I’ve got to stay focused—and keep my mind off all the wicked, sexy things I’ve been doing with Lauren Hayes. There’s a price on my head, and I won’t let her be the one to pay it.
Previously published under a different title: ‘Chemistry with Calvin.’
Length: 175 pages.
Series: Research and Desire #3.
Genre: Romance. Erotica.
Read as an: eBook.
My Thoughts: Third book into the Research and Desire series and I am still loving them! The spark between Calvin and Lauren in Carnal Chemistry is amazing. The two characters really hit it off and the ‘chemistry’ between them is both intense and heartwarming. Similar to Natural Selection, the pair have a lot of witty conversational back and forths, however where puns featured heavily in the second book, playful snark features in the third.
She turned her back on her people and shifted her allegiance to the very Empire she was sent to betray
Now head spymaster, Lyre’s loyalty lies with Sabine, the Empress she has loved since childhood. But when Sabine visits the secretive Cloud Vault, the floating citadel home that Lyre betrayed, Lyre’s elaborate web of lies starts to untangle. Her very presence threatens Sabine’s future, and Lyre will do whatever it takes to protect her lover…even if that means sacrificing herself.
Empress Sabine Corvus has lived a life of service, pushing aside her own desires for the greater good. With the Empire teetering on the brink of war with the traitorous Syndicate, she cannot afford to show weakness. Although Lyre’s spymaster skills are her greatest weapon, their bond is Sabine’s Achilles’ heel. Regardless of the price, she will not give Lyre up.
My Thoughts: A Treason of Truths is an action packed, science fiction, f/f romance story which revolves around the relationship and actions of Empress Sabine and her spymaster Lyre. Summarised by the author as a ‘Queer Girl Die Hard on a floating city,’ the book more than lives up to this description.
