Small Snippet of August 2019

August has been a busy month – one that has finished quite quickly! I hope you all enjoyed the graphic novel month which came about completely by accident.

I’m going to change things up and ask you a question this month, so feel free to check out the below poll and let me know how you’re interacting with this website. I’m going to use the results to create content thats more formatted and suited towards viewing on the screens that you use.

Quick thoughts

I’ve said this before but if you’re sick, don’t go to work 🤧I’ve been fighting off a cold for over a month now and I have sadly succumbed. I think I did pretty well considering I was surrounded by so many sick staff members at work.

Remember the key words: Don’t be a dick – Don’t go to work sick!

Update on my 2019 goals.

  • Dreamspun Beyond book – Okay so apparently ages ago I bought but never read one of these books 😧So it was a lovely surprise when I logged onto my DreamSpinner account to find that Dragon’s Hoard by M.A. Church was sitting there waiting for me to read. And may I say that I LOVED it! The book was very fun and I read it so quickly in one day. Unfortunately the book is only available as an audiobook at the moment but I would really recommend people checking out the Dreamspun Beyond series and also Dragon’s Hoard!
  • Parks and Rec -I am half way through season 6 and now my partner is as hooked as I am ❤ I’m actually surprised that I’ve never encountered any spoilers, especially in regards to election results, etc.

Small Snippet of July 2019

July is not only the half way mark for 2019 but it is also a month of big change for me.

I got a new job!

The position is permanent part-time and comes with guaranteed hours per month. As someone who has worked casually for five years and who has been looking for permanent work for eight, this is a momentous occasion.

I actually have a wage. I can make plans with my wage. I don’t have to live in fear that my contract will be cancelled early with no notice! So much of the stress and fear I have been carrying around is slowing fading away and I’m coming to terms with these things.

July has been a good month and hopefully the rest of the year will be just as good!

The Sims 4: Island Living

Okay so it has taken ages but we finally have the island paradise expansion of the The Sims. I say finally because the Seasons and Island Living expansions are my absolute favourites. If I only had to chose two they would be it!

The Sims 4: Island Living does not disappoint, it is beautiful, fun to play, and I doubt I will return to the other town areas 😋 Why would I leave paradise? The added game play and careers are really engaging and I was so exited to see a lesbian couple and the first non-binary character included in the area.

Honestly, look at the below picture, how could you not want to play this expansion?

Mash of the Titans VIII (2019)

A new Mash of the Titans has dropped and I am loving it. You may remember me loving the 7th album, and when I found out the release date of the 8th I was so excited! I am pleased to let you know, the 8th is amazing!

I am particularly loving ‘Mama Did Something Bad,’ ‘Dividely,’ ‘Blurred Ice,’ and ‘It’s Gonna Be ME!’ All of the mashup albums are available for free, so there is no reason why you shouldn’t be out there enjoying the music ❤

Small Snippet of May 2019

When did May sneak up on us? I cannot understand how fast this year is going 😱 Next thing you’ll be telling me it’s Winter tomorrow and I that need to pull out the flannelette sheets and heaters – oh wait, a cold snap has hit and it’s already freezing ❄☃ Let it be known that I already miss summer 😭🌞

DuckTales (2017)

Omgoodnes the memories! The show has the same theme song as the original and I perked up as soon as it started. Who knew I had the lyrics and song stored in my brain?

I’m really enjoying the updated TV show. Also, David Tennant voices Scoorge so there is that and it is amazing. Also it is making me want to re-watch Darkwing Duck!

Upstart Crow

How have I only just found out about this show?!

I love Ben Elton – why is this only just coming to my attention 😥😥😥 Either way I have binged the first season of this show and absolutely love it!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the month of romance themed posts ❤ I promise next month isn’t as focused on the genre, however you’re almost always guaranteed to find a romance themed post at least once a month. So hopefully you didn’t hate it too much 😋

Small Snippets

Captain Underpants Series by Dav Pilkey.

Okay, so I haven’t read these books since I was a kid and eagerly awaiting each new publication. It recently came to my attention that my library had the complete collection on one of our eBook apps.

So needless to say, I borrowed them all and started devouring them over the course of this month. They’re just as great as I remember, so fun, and so excellently self referential.

Small Snippet of January 2019

The first month of 2019 has been good and bad. I managed to achieve a bunch so far this year in regards to getting blog posts up and ready as well as tackling my Netgalley ARC list. However, it’s been tough at work with a staff member who I worked closely with, suddenly passing away over the holiday break.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend her funeral as there were too many staff attending for everyone to be able to go 😢 It has made returning to work very bittersweet and I have found myself at times upset and short tempted while working with the public. So just remember everyone that library staff are people too and your behaviour does affect them.

*Looking at you snooty lady who wouldn’t take no for an answer when I wouldn’t sign her granddaughter up to the library (you’re not the legal guardian and didn’t have any ID – so no you weren’t entitled to a card just because) and angry dude who lost ‘two years of work’ when the 15 minute computer turned off when the time ran out (it totally gave you repeated warnings and yelling at me solved nothing). 😓😅 Rant over.

Moving on, below are some of the things I have been interacting with and enjoying over the month 😃

Small Snippets

Brooklyn 99 – Season 5.

Omg, Brooklyn 99 just keeps getting better! There were so many amazing moments in this season, I can’t pick a favourite buuut stand outs were:

  • Rosa coming out as bisexual – that speech by Jake while he was pretending to be Rosa coming out to her parents had me tearing up. So great to see some bisexual representation ❤
  • The wedding vows – Man, I was emotional throughout the whole season but I was in tears and sob laughing during the wedding scene. ‘Your butt. Your butt is the bomb’ was so sweet and funny and just encapsulates why I love those two as a couple.
  • That interrogation episode – If you haven’t seen it check out the episode ‘The Box.’ Such an amazing episode!

mashofthetitanscoverMash of the Titans Volume 7

I’ve previously talked about how much I love mashup music (see my Robin Skouteris post) and Mash of the Titans #7 does not disappoint. I feel that every track on this compilation is on point and amazing.

I cannot stop listening to, My My My! (I’m Curious), Havana Lovers, Love is Cure, and I Want You To Sing Me A Lullaby.

If you’re not too sure what is/or if you’ll like mashup music, I really encourage you to click some links, watch some videos, and download the album. Not only is it good music, but it’s damned catchy!

final spaceFinal Space

I devoured Final Space in two days. The ten episode series is a funny, but brutal, sci-fi animation from the mind of Olan Rogers.

The show has only just recently become available through Netflix Australia and I cannot stress how much you need to watch this show!

The main character, Gary, is just so hard to describe. At first he can come off as annoying, too big a character, but keep going. Get the feel of the show. Then love him!

The voice acting talents of the whole cast are amazing. Tom Kenny is the hilarious backbone of the show, with Rogers, Tika Sumpter, David Tennant, Steven Yeun and Coty Galloway shining through.

The humour of the show is just so on point. It was like the show was designed to make me laugh. One of my favourite moments is when HUE the space ship’s AI just casually refers to the bad guys as dickheads. Made me explode with laughter. So if that sounds like something you would enjoy, give it a go! Right now!!

Final Space needs a second season and you need to watch the first!

Long Lost Reviews IconLong Lost Reviews

I’ve gone ahead and created another feature post for the blog. Next month will see the first post of my new ‘Long Lost Reviews’ feature. The general idea around these posts is to get people looking back at books or things that they’re always been meaning to review but for one reason or another haven’t gotten around to writing.

A lot of the times I’ll see book reviews on Goodreads that are made up of the one sentence, ‘review to come.’ When I have a quick look at the date, often it’s been two years and no review has been added 😛 Long Lost Reviews is a chance to go back to those books and actually write something. Whether or not it is an in depth discussion or simply a paragraph of all that you can remember, it doesn’t matter as long as your getting something out about the item 🙂

My first selection for the very first post is a book that had a big affect on me, however I cannot remember any of the plot. All I remember is how it affected me and how I feel when I think of the book. If you’re interested in jumping on the Long Lost Review train, leave a comment and let me know 🙂

Small Snippet July

How are we more than half way through 2018?!

I feel like I blinked in January and now here we are, more than half way done with the year. Next thing you know I’ll be writing Xmas themed posts.

So without further ado, here is a small snippet of what I have been interacting with this July. Careful though, don’t blink too much or next thing you know you’ll be reading my November one.

Elodie-Unicorn-DiffuserElodie® Unicorn Diffuser

Okay so you might not know this about me but I have a thing for unicorns. This year I have been in absolute heaven because almost out of no where, there has been a sudden explosion of unicorn themed merchandise.

The Elodie Unicorn Diffuser is so incredibly adorable and amazing. It’s currently winter in Australia and it is killing me. The humidifying aspect of the diffuser has been great, and the ability to add essential oils is even better. My bedroom not only smells nice, it looks lovely when the unicorn is being used as a lamp, all the while helping my sleep more comfortably.

pray for the wicked panicatthediscoPray for the Wicked by Panic! at the Disco

Panic! at the Disco’s first album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, was a big album for me, it came out while I was in my final years of high school and was on repeat pretty much the whole time.

After that album though, I sadly didn’t keep up with the band, however for some reason Pray for the Wicked has made its way into my awareness, and I am loving it! Brendon Urie’s vocals and the tendency for the songs to have an amazing and complex depth of sound, remain the same from their first album.

Pray for the Wicked is the sixth album for the band and something tells me I will be making my way through their back catalogue. I am so glad that I stumbled upon this new album and cannot wait to continue listening to the Panic! at the Disco sound ❤

star vs the forces of evilStar vs. the Forces of Evil

I was drawn to this show by the cute art style, but boy, am I staying for the story! The show is way more nuanced and deep than I would have ever expected.

I am currently up to season two and the characters are actually undergoing complex emotional journeys. I won’t give away spoilers but the main character Star, who is just so enthusiastic and adorable, is being forced to confront the bigotry on which her kingdom is founded.

If you have a few spare half an hour definitely give the first episode of the show a go, its cute, deceptively deep, and the storyline packs a wallop – everything a good cartoon needs!

Small Snippet of May 2018

Small Snippet

What with my busy schedule of poetry themed posts, I decided to skip my Small Snippet post for April. I feel that you guys weren’t denied anything as I almost tripled the amount of normal posts I do a month. Just in case you were going through withdrawals, here is a small snippet of some of the things I have been interacting with in May. Continue reading “Small Snippet of May 2018”
