I was quite productive and read a fair amount this September. So here is a quick rundown of the books I finished during the month of September.
Who’s that Earl by Susanna Craig
Who’s That Earl is the first book of Susanna Criag’s I have read and I quite enjoyed it. The characters of the historical romance were very nuanced and I not only did I like them as individuals but I really liked them together. First in the Love and Let Spy Series, I will deifnelty be looking out for the next in store.
Also I do love the cover of this book, it is so striking and different. However every time I look at it I can’t help but think that there is something wrong with her arms? Maybe it is the style of the dress that is throwing me off? I’m not sure, what do you think?
Two Dukes and a Lady by Lorna James
Two Dukes and a Lady was a quick and naughty read, with the regency romance being tipped on its head by featuring a menage relationship that features two dukes and a widowed friend from their childhood. Keep your eye out for a longer post about this book as it will be featuring in my next 12 Tropes of 2020 post!
Geek Girls Don’t Cry by Andrea Towers
Geek Girls Don’t Cry was a in depth look at women from popular culture and how they deal with and cope with real life problems. Each chapter explored a character and how they deal with certain topics, for example Dana Scully from The X-Files and how she overcomes trauma; Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and how we can view anxiety through constant striving for perfection; as well as how Princess Leia copes with her grief at having lost her whole planet.
It was really interesting and empowering to look at these fictional characters and see not only how they have handled themselves but what messages you can take home from their actions. Geek Girls wasn’t a book I devoured, rather it was one I returned to and read a chapter at a time.
Check, Please! Book 1: #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu
I have been meaning to read this graphic novel for a while now and WHY DID IT TAKE ME SO LONG TO PICK IT UP?! Check, Please! Book 1 was amazing! I feel in love with the characters and that ending! I need to read Book 2 RIGHT NOW!
Captive Mate by Eliot Grayson
Sequel to The Alpha’s Warlock, Captive Mate is a direct continuation in this world of werewolves, magic, and less than ideal living conditions (thinks 70s décor 😱). While the sequel did touch on some tough themes such a non-consensual sex, they were in a past tense and did not happen ‘on screen.’ I do think that the tougher topics were treated quite lightly and not given as much weight as they should have in regards to character development but the book was none the less enjoyable.
Check, Please: Stocks & Scones by by Ngozi Ukazu
Okay, so I read the second volume a few days after the first and LOVED IT TOO! The two books were really sweet and not only did I love the story but I loved the characters, I loved story, I loved the romance, I love how the couple communicated with each other, I loved the baking, and I loved how much I learnt about Hockey!
❤ So much love for this book and the series ❤
So what have you been reading? Any thoughts on the books I read? Let me know in the comments!
