From the award-winning author of Princess Princess Ever After comes The Tea Dragon Society, a charming all-ages book that follows the story of Greta, a blacksmith apprentice, and the people she meets as she becomes entwined in the enchanting world of tea dragons.

After discovering a lost tea dragon in the marketplace, Greta learns about the dying art form of tea dragon care-taking from the kind tea shop owners, Hesekiel and Erik. As she befriends them and their shy ward, Minette, Greta sees how the craft enriches their lives—and eventually her own.

My Thoughts

The Tea Dragon Society is a super cute and sweet graphic novel. The story reads almost like a fairytale with its structure and almost vague narrative, what separates The Tea Dragon Society from other stories is the fantastic art and emotional story telling.

I have previously read O’Neill’s graphic novel, Princess Princess Ever After and loved it. The Tea Dragon Society is similar to that book in that it is a simple story told very beautifully in both its language and art. O’Neill is great at creating these compact stories that as they unfold, invoke strong emotions – happiness, sadness, nostalgia, and even bittersweetness (which is totally an emotion).

The Tea Dragon Society was a short and sweet story that I read very quickly. I was not only intrigued by the concept of the story, namely the tea dragons, but I kept reading because of the characters. I wanted to know more about Hesekiel and Erik, more about Minette, and more about the society that the story took place in. Katie O’Neill really draws you in with her art but keeps you with her stories.

Recommendation

I would really recommend The Tea Dragon Society for anyone who wants to read a quick and heartwarming story that you can read with a cup of tea ☕️🍵

Plus The Tea Dragon Society is so super cute, so you should totally read it!
