It’s the 28th of April – which means:
IT’S TABLETOP DAY!
For those of you who don’t know, the internationally celebrated day is a chance for people to come together and celebrate, share, and play tabletop games.
What are tabletop games I hear you ask? Well tabletop games are anything which can be played on a table 😛 This includes board games, card games, role playing games (such as Dungeons and Dragons), dice games, and many more!
If the only tabletop games you can think of are Monopoly and poker, then please do yourself a favour and research some new games. I am saying this, not only because there are some amazing games out there but because Monopoly is the literal worse 😉
To get you into the swing of things here are some of my favourite tabletop games:
Betrayal at House on the Hill
Betrayal at House on the Hill quickly builds suspense and excitement as players explore a haunted mansion of their own design, encountering spirits and frightening omens that foretell their fate.
I absolutely love this game, it is one that you can play, multiple times and have a different experience each time. All players start off playing on the same side but once you reach a certain point in the game, everything changes. A player may be bitten by a werewolf, someone may set off a bomb, someone may reveal their true colours and release demons from hell – each play is different.
I would 100% recommend giving this game a go, it is really replayable and keeps you on your toes with each play 🙂
One player is the storyteller for the turn and looks at the images on the 6 cards in her hand. From one of these, she makes up a sentence and says it out loud (without showing the card to the other players).
Each other player selects the card in their hands which best matches the sentence and gives the selected card to the storyteller, without showing it to the others.
The storyteller shuffles her card with all the received cards. All pictures are shown face up and every player has to bet upon which picture was the storyteller’s.
Not only is Dixit fun to play but it is incredibly beautiful. Think of this game as a beautiful, thinking outside the box, non dirty Cards Against Humanity alternative. I say non-dirty but honestly tha’ts up to you 😉
I have previously talked about all the fun that Dixit in this post. I would really recommend this game to everyone as this is a really chill card game that you can play with even the most ‘gaming’ reluctant person.
- Once Upon a Time – A story telling game where each player tries to tell or hijack a collaborative story to get to their own happily ever after.
- Bring Your Own Book – A card game where each player brings their own book ( 😉 ) and searches for answers to prompts from the text within their books.
- Ticket to Ride – combining my love of board games and trains, Ticket to Ride sees you compete to finish train routes across America.
- The Resistance – (For big groups of gamers) Accuse your friends of being spies, fight to see missions succeed or be sneaky and try and sabotage the entire cause – The Resistance sees players secretly spilt up into Resistance fights and hidden Empire spies, play against friends and either try to who the spies are or play against the team and subtly fail the missions.
What are some of your favourite games? Is there one that you love replaying or one you desperately need to play?Comment and let me know 🙂
